NPIP

NPIP is the National Poultry Improvement Plan.  The NPIP was established in the 1930s to eliminate Pullorum Disease caused by Salmonella Pullorum.   The program was later extended and refined to include testing and monitoring for Salmonella typhoid, Salmonella enteritidis, Mycoplasma gallisepticum, Mycoplasma synoviae, Mycoplasma meleagridis, and Avian Influenza.

The NPIP not only includes backyard poultry such as Dogwood Trace Farms, but also includes commercial poultry, turkeys, waterfowl, exhibition poultry, and game birds.

The NPIP has established the standards for the evaluation of poultry with respect to freedom from NPIP diseases.

On May 6, 2012,  our flock was tested by one of the state NPIP technicians.  All our chickens "passed."

NPIP Participant # 63-426

In May 2013, we decided to stop selling hatching eggs and chicks.  So maintaining our NPIP participation is no longer important.  We won't renew it.
